I Needed Some Cabinets
I moved, needed to design some cabinets, and started building a small browser-based modeller instead of relearning Fusion 360.
I recently moved and needed to design a set of cabinets.
I tried drawing them by hand, but my sketches raised more questions for the cabinet maker than they answered. I needed a proper drawing with exact dimensions to show what I had in mind.
I used to be pretty good at Fusion 360, but it had been long enough that I would need to learn my way around it again. I could do that, or I could try building something just for me.
I picked the second one.
That became Drafter, a small parametric modeller that runs in the browser. You can sketch shapes, extrude them into solids, and sketch on the faces of what you have built.
It also gave me a project to try OpenSpec on. The UI takes some inspiration from Ableton, just for fun.
You can try Drafter here, read more about the design on the project page, or find the code on GitHub.
